Senior Youth Detention Worker (HELP Program)

Description of Duties

This is a custodial position responsible for the direction of the supervision, guidance and corrective direction of adolescent youth who reside in the Monroe County Children’s Center (a Specialized/ Secure Detention Facility), usually by court order.  Duties include court ordered transporting of youth as well as participation in the orientation and training of Youth Detention Workers.  Employees work a variety of shifts and schedules and physically restrain youth when conditions arise.  This position differs from Youth Detention Worker by virtue of its higher level of responsibility regarding the supervision and scheduling of staff and assistance to medical staff. The employee reports directly to, and works under the general supervision of a Supervising Youth Detention Worker or other higher-level staff member.  Lead supervision is exercised over Youth Detention Workers.  Does related work as required.

HELP PROGRAM: Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Program.  This program streamlines the appointment process to allow Monroe County to hire diverse, qualified permanent employees quickly and without examination.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma plus EITHER:

(A)  One (1) year paid full time or its part time equivalent experience providing custodial care, recreation, counseling or guidance (including vocational guidance), casework, or instruction to youth (up to and including age twenty-one [21]) in a facility, institution, or agency; or in law enforcement, corrections, or security work, or as military police; OR,

(B)  Successful completion of thirty (30) college semester credit hours; OR,

(C)  An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.
